Notes from the Field

Tomatoes Are In The Ground!
Pannell (May 18, 2020)

One of the biggest milestones of our season was reached yesterday afternoon - the last of the transplant tomatoes was moved into the field! Our total count of tomato plants in the field this season comes in at 232. This season's collection includes a mix of large heirlooms, solid slicers, tasty cherries and a new early variety we hope to have ready for market in June. A few examples of the 2020 varieties: Ruth's Perfect, Rutgers, Italian Heirlooms, German Johnson, Paul Robinson, Black Cherry, Esterena, Latah, Willamette and "Dancing with Smurfs" (I didn't make that up). Stay tuned - lots more to come!

Looking forward to 2020

The Six Pea 2019 season is in the books! It ended a little early when the rain showed up in mid-September, but not before we had several weeks of solid harvests. As always, the tomatoes came in very well, but we also had a solid showing with the beans, cucumbers, zucchinni and sweet corn. A special "Thank You!" to Erin and everybody at the Sherwood Saturday Market that helped make it a great season. Planning for more of the same for 2020!

In The Market
Pannell (August 30, 2019)

The 2019 tomato harvest is in full swing! The weather may have pushed the schedule a bit, but everything is coming in nicely now. We've got a wide variety of tomatos this season including Italian Heirloom, Ruth's Perfect, Rutgers, Black Cherry, the super sweet yellow Esterena Cherry and a new orange cherry that might be just as sweet as Esterena. Come see us at the Sherwood Saturday Market!

Getting Closer
Pannell (July 17, 2019)

It hasn't been the best tomato growing season thus far, but everything is still coming along nicely. Probably a couple weeks from our first market, but we do have a few veggies and eggs (new flock!) available now. Stay tuned!

It went by so quick!
Pannell (September 17, 2018)

Another season nearly over. We had a great run of tomatoes and other summer crops, but the cool rainy weather that settled in last week put the brakes on our heat-loving plants. We were still able to put together a good stand for the Sherwood Saturday Market last Saturday, but that was our final market of the season. See you next year!

Right in the middle...
Pannell (July 23, 2018)

We're already in the middle of another season and I'm just now getting around to posting an update! While our strawberries, raspberries and marionberries have come and gone, the tomatoes are just getting started. Everything looks to be right on schedule if not a little bit ahead. We've been pulling in Latah's for a couple of weeks now and are just starting to get a few of the Esterena and Black Cherry varieties. All very tasty! Hopefully everything will be ready for a market visit in the next couple of weeks!

Another season comes to a close...
Pannell (October 13, 2017)

The cool and rainy weather the week of September 18th ushered in the end of our growing season, but not before we managed to make 5 visits to the Sherwood Farmers Market and produce one of the best tomoato crops we've ever had. Kudos to mother nature for delivering a fantastic growing season after what seemed like the longest, coolest and wettest spring in memory! We're hoping for a repeat performance next year, with maybe just a bit more sun in the spring.

Sherwood Market Postscript
Pannell (September 16, 2017)

It was great to see everyone at what was likely our last market visit until next season. Hope to see you again in 2018!

Our Last Sherwood Market of 2017
Pannell (September 15, 2017)

The weather continues to cooperate in fine fashion so we'll be making another run to the Sherwood Farmers Market tomorrow. Lots of tomatoes (probably our best Yellow Stuffing of the season!), cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins and a few butterbush squash. See you there!
